Can a company send employees to a group First Aid and CPR class, or is there a reason to have it on-site?
Cal-OSHA says that the instruction must meet the needs of the workplace, the likely types of injury and the response equipment that is available. Office workers might be sent to an outside class, but construction workers and machinists should receive specific information about how to deal with the likely injuries in their line of work. For example, a class for construction workers must cover head injuries and response to falls in much greater detail than is typical for a 'general interest' class. Of course, child care providers should be trained in how to help children, as should employees of hotels, restaurants and other hospitality businesses.
