What regulatory changes are coming for companies that use scissor lift or other manlift equipment?
The new ANSI standard (ANSI A92.20/22/24) that will be enforceable by both Federal OSHA and Cal-OSHA requires an employer to assess the worksite for hazards involved in using this equipment and maintain a written program of compliance. All workers who might be elevated and all workers who are in the area must receive training in the safe work procedures based on their duties. This is a change from the previous standard which only required the equipment operator to be trained. There also are design changes for newly purchased equipment; a chain can no longer be used for fall protection and automatic systems for overload sensing and instability will prevent the devices from being used if the load is too heavy or an incline is too steep. Companies that do not comply with the new regulations are at substantial risk of liability in the event of an accident. A summary of the new standard will be e-mailed to you on request if you want more information. Contact email@example.com or call (310) 770-6684
